My name is Ruth Malone and I am from The Irish Times. I am currently looking at writing an article on this year's Fleadh Cheoil and would love to talk to you about your experience of it. My contact number is 6718429 and my email address is mizz_ruth@hotmail.com.Kind Regards,Ruth Malone
Why was a relative of a provincial winner allowed to adjudicate in another, later, provincial competition? This adjudicator went on to give a low place to a recent All-Ireland champion while letting others not quite so good through? This means that the relative will not be facing the strong competition they should. Something smells here! Search your records.
I've been going to the Fleadh for 25 years and it's always been the last weekend in August. I've booked my holiday and travel on that basis only to find it's a week early. Disaster!! Anything happening the next weekend?
I agree, the NI/Uk bank holiday weekend end of August has been the tradtional weekend for the Fleadh an I have been going since Buncranna in the mid 70s. It is messing with our tradition. You wont be the only one caught out.See how quiet the Monday and Tuesday will be this year. They wont even say if the are continuing with this change for next year
Hi, Just to let you know Éigse Uí Ghramhnaigh is on in Athboy, second annual, traditional concert, gig rig ceilithe, all Ireland Sean nos competions, check www.athboy.com August 28-30.
A lot of people are in the same boat as you - the Bridge Hotel is fully booked and I heard that the Court and Days also havee people booked! Might be worthwhile going anyway - the music might even be better! Good luck.
Hey, the Scoil Eigse campsite is not in the GAA centre but has moved to the grounds of Tullamore Rugby Club. Showers, 24 Hour Security, Toilet facilities etc all included. Shuttle bus also available. Check out the website http://www.fleadh2009.com/scoil-eigse-campsite
I think its totally wrong to suggest its a ripoff.....the quality of the camping facilities at the Fleadhs in Tullamore have been the best ever.....hot showers.....toilets...security....and at reasonable rates...a little bit of a walk to charleville camp site but worth it for atmosphere at the fleadh.
I have never been before but am looking forward to going this year! Am going to camp, is the campsite in good condition? And will there be any room left on friday or saturday?
God Bless all Festival guys and gals at the Fleagh 2009. Watch out for Fermanaghs brightest star, Marea Connelly (Wattlebridge) from the borders of Fermanagh/Cavan/Monaghan - she has the face of an angel and the voice of Rosie Steward/Roisin White combinead. Outstanding!!!! Good luck young Connelly. Big John would be proud of you!!!!
NOTE:GAA (O'Brien park)have supported the fleadh i stayed there the previous 2 years and overall its a better run campsite than the campsite at the rugby club this year. (At least we could have a shower when we wanted)The GAA is steeped in irish culture and have always supported the fleadh ceoil over the years.
Of course they are steeped in irish Culture - it's just money to them. Euro 28,000 is not a bad payday for 07-08 from the Fleadh - and asking 24K for O9 was just pure mean - so glad the Rubgy Club was available and did such a wonderful job with just 3 weeks notice.
they got a lot of money from the fleadh - €28k the last 2 years. they wanted €24k this year plus costs. not fair when they are supposed to be steeped in culture..... they're only after the money.
I am arriving in Ireland 0n Wednesday, August26. I just discovered this web site and I am very disappointed that I will miss this great event. I love the tradition irish music and dance. Perhaps if I visit Tullamore there will be some leftover music in twon.
Best place for a pint is Paul McNamees in the centre of town. Its just after the Catholic Church.Best of luck to everybody involved in bringing the Fleadh back toTullamore for three in a row.
Although the campsite in the rugby club was smaller than the last two years, it was okay apart from the water running out which was an inconvinence as we could not have showers. I would like to thank the boys from the GAA who allowed us to use there showers. Thanks ALOT lads!
usual rip off in tullamore. The standard of adjucating in all accordeon competitionswas just terrible.A total joke.I hope Tullamore never gets another fleadh
u or whoever u talking about was prob not good enough 2 win so go back 2 wherever and sulk, Tullamore don't decide who adjucates in any competition. It comes from head office. Tullamore did a great job 3 years in a row.
Judges are not chosen by local committees but by the powers in Comhaltas head office Accordions not the only ones shafted check out accompaniment and see how few pianos made it to the places
Web cam on this site brilliant. Thrilled to be able to watch the ceili band senior competition. Also congrats on having the results up so quickly. Well done all in Tullamore. My first time missing a Fleadh and very impressd with this site.
Went on day trip to fleadh...missed train home and ended up listening to the all ireland accordian champion all night in hotel lobby. Excellent. Now 5.30am getting train :)
Was in Tullamore for the wkend for the Fleadh came from Belfast. Had a great time there, the people were so freindly and happy and helpful and the crack was great. Hope Tullamore gets the Fleadh soon again.... thanks for a fab wkend....
Had a great weekend in tullamore great music song and craic, and may i say the campsite at charleville were we were stayin at had great shower and wash facilities well doneslan sean
A few first for any Fleadh, kick boxing in very high heels in McNamees (You know who your are!), Flag pole climbing very impressive!, subways that not only are tasty but also are very pleasureable - ted (quess what your wife is getting for your birthday), South African taxis driver lost somewhere in the country looking for the motorway!!!! Private security on call at every pub we were at and small rugs available to order for any conditions, in all a great wkend with lots of laughs....
Tullamore was great... thanks to all involved
best fleadh ever.Rugby club the best camp site. Thanks to Pat for all his generosity, the free burgers and gifts for the children. GAA did not treat us as nicely. Look forward to next fleadh in Tullamore. Keep up the good work. Brilliant committee. Very courtous and friendly people in the Fleadh Office. Thanks a million
Hope the Fleadh was good this year. I was at the all Ireland 3 years ago now...Such a long time, hard to believe. I wish I could be back home in Ireland again, Maybe some time in the future!Hope it all went well this year!!! Go Wexford!! Haha.Jack.
This was our 3rd year at the Fleadh in Tullamore. On two occasions in Bridge House Hotel this year, members of my family (one aged 16) were told that we couldn't listen to the music unless we were drinking!!!! Did anyone else have the same experience? I couldn't believe it. Surely part of the whole Fleadh experience is wandering from place to place listening to the music and enjoying the atmosphere.
Hi All Musicians, can anybody please name the first jig played at the senior ceili band competition by the Dartry Ceili Band? lovely tune. You will hear it played on the live cam and video links on the fleadh site
Tullamore was great... thanks to all involved
