Almost 3,500 musicians, singers and dancers are expected to gather in Tullamore next week in an attempt to break the number of people, who played traditional Irish music for almost an hour as part of the 2008 ‘World’s Largest Traditional Irish Music Session’.
Yes, it is going to be the Session to Beat the Recession.
The inaugural event was unveiled as part of the 2007 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and has since established itself as a firm favourite with everyone over the past two years
It is just one of the dynamic events taking place as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2009 and takes place on Friday, 21st August with the parade assembling at Llyod Town Park at 7.30pm with the World’s session attempt taking place in Market Square at approximately, 8pm.
The event will be preceded by the opening parade, which will assemble at Lloyd Town Park, Tullamore and travel through the streets of Tullamore until it reaches O’Connor Square.
It promises to be even bigger and better than last year and is shaping up to be an event not to be missed .
Everyone is welcome to attend and to bring whatever traditional instrument they wish, their singing voice or their dancing shoes to take part in the event. Spectators are also welcome to witness this phenomenal event.
One of the event organisers, James Hogan, said he is delighted to see that the event is taking place again. “Everyone remembers the fantastic atmosphere that made last year’s event and we are working to make it even bigger and better than that.
“We are inviting musicians to come to O’Connor, on Friday, 21st August to take part in what could a little piece of history,” he said.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place from Sunday, 16th August 2009 to 23rd August 2009 and promises to be an event not to miss.
