The Green Fleadh

Tullamore and the Fleadh are initiating an eco awareness programme for fleadh attendants.

The Green Fleadh ( to the air of Courtin’ in the Kitchen)

1

Oh as I sit and wonder

At the colours of the rainbow

The beauties of the earth

Are so plainly to be seen oh

The sun, the moon and stars

Shine through a mist that’s seen

To give this lovely island

All that’s beautiful and green

Chorus

With me toor ay oor ay ah

With me toor ay oor ay addy

We Irish keep our culture

Very close to all that’s green

2

Let’s keep this marvel in our hearts

For future generations

So they may know our love

For God’s good and grand creation

When it comes into the sky

At morning noon and evenin’

We celebrate our fifty ninth

Of fleadhs and all that’s green.

Chorus

With me tooray oor ay ah

With me toor ay oor ay addy

We Irish keep our culture

Very close to all that’s green

3

We pass through the green gates

To the lovely fields of Éirinn

The shamrock ever present

And the primrose lass goes tearin’

With the flutes and fiddles ringing

It’s plainly to be seen

How we Irish keep our culture

Very close to all that’s green

Chorus

With me toor ay oor ay ah

With me toor ay oor ay addy

We Irish keep our culture

Very close to all that’s green

Over the years, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann has worked at consistently making the Fleadh more accessible and enjoyable for all.

This year's Fleadh will for the first time emphasise our continued commitment to the environment by formalising and promoting the Green Fleadh in 2009.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann has by its nature, been a 'Green Leader' for years in the promotion of a better environment for all and we encourage all vistors and participants to follow the following policies.

 1.   Car Pooling: which has always been popular for those travelling long distances.
2.   Provision of traffic free zones.
3.   Street Sessions - Acoustic sessions - Non amplified and amplification is frowned upon.
4.   The Fleadh Gig Rigs are monitored by Sound Consultants under Health and Safety rules.
5.   Administration Office is utilising environmentally sustainable ink and paper.
6.   Courtesy Cars in use by the Fleadh Cheoil are Hydrid low emission cars.
7.   Fleadh Office Waste is segregated to maximise recycle / recovery.
8.   Used Battery Boxes supplied at the Fleadh Office.
9.   Fleadh programme is printed on paper supplied from sustainable forests.

The Fleadh is an ideal event to actively use the principles of a sustainable environment.

The pedestrianised streets help reduce CO2 emissions and improve air quality in the town centre.

All hotels in Tullamore are continuously promoting the efficient use of energy and water.

You can help!

A special emphasis this year is being placed on REUSING, REDUCING AND RECYCLING!

Please arrange lifts with friends from the various parts of the country with car pooling

Please remember, every plastic bottle, can or other recyclable item that is deposited correctly and carefully by YOU is another step towards a cleaner and safer  environment.

The 'GREEN FLEADH TEAM will be out and about on the streets wearing their identifiable bibs.  This team of volunteers will be helping to dispose of  rubbish and they will be encouraging you to ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ in the designated bins, as provided by Tullamore Town Council.  They need your support.

A special GREEN FLEADH Theme Song has been written and will be sung throughout the event.  The lyrics are provided, please sing along!

THE JOINT EFFORTS OF THE ORGANISERS AND THE  PARTICIPANTS FOR GREEN FLEADH 2009, CAN HELP ENSURE OUR CULTURE MOVES TOWARDS TOTAL HARMONY WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT.
